Every year, carnival brings light-heartedness and fun for adults and children alike. One of the most characteristic episodes of this period is 'la morte de lu Paulinu', a character who represents the essence of carnival: he is the king of vices and sins and embodies the possibility of overturning all social orders once a year. This tradition evokes the time of ancient Rome when, exactly during the carnival period, the roles between masters and servants were reversed, and the latter were allowed to rail against the powerful without suffering reprisals.

For this reason, in view of the Lenten period, the death of Paulinu is commemorated. Metaphorically, the puppet representing this character is transported on a cart through the streets of the city, followed by a very long funeral procession displaying despair at his passing.
