On 24 July 2000, the financiers Salvatore De Rosa and Daniele Zoccola, gold medals for civil valor, lost their lives in the waters in front of the entrance to Grotta Zinzulusa, at the hands of some Albanian smugglers. The two soldiers were with other colleagues on board a patrol boat engaged in an operation concerning the "trafficking of human beings".

The city of Castro to commemorate the death of the two financiers who fell in the fulfillment of their work, had the monument built by the sculptor Giovanni Scupola of Specchia, which depicts the deposition of Christ in the arms of the Madonna.
