One of the most evocative and long-awaited festivals in the area is the one in honour of Our Lady of the Rosary of Pompeii in Castro. The feast is linked to the memory of a miracle occurred in 1896: according to the stories, the Lady of the Rosary saved from the storm the village fishermen who had gone out in a boat.

The highlight of the festivities is the famous procession at sea: the statue of the Madonna is carried on the shoulders of the fishermen from the Sanctuary to the old port, where, immediately after the celebration of the Holy Mass, the procession continues by sea with the lampara lamps lit and the boats adorned with lights, flags and streamers. The statue of the Madonna is placed on a festively lit barge and in this way begins its journey throughout the the bay, along the caves.

On its return, the entire bay of Castro is illuminated and coloured by spectacular fireworks by the sea.
