In Castro, April 24-26 there is the Feast of Our Lady of the Annunciation, a patronal feast in honour of Maria Annunziata, the town's patron saint. Castro has enjoyed this special protection since 1117, when the beautiful Adriatic town passed from the jurisdiction of Byzantium to that of Rome.
As per tradition, the historical procession takes place and, at dusk, the lighting of the illuminations. The three days of celebrations and performances, to the sound of fireworks at sea that entertain the visitors present, is the main event in the town of Castro, known in summer for the beauty of its sea.
Also characteristic is the 'Pesce a Sarsa' festival, a special frying of blue fish caught fresh in the sea just offshore.
